American Flags: You may drop-off unwanted flags at any V.F.W., the 1st floor of the Athens County Building located at 15 South Court Street, or the Hocking County Veterans’ Service Commission located at 30657 Redrock Court in Logan.

Fabric/Arts and Craft Supplies: Consider taking these to Passion Works or the Athens Makerspace for projects or upcycling. The materials have to be clean and no oil based materials will be accepted. Also, consider contacting local day care centers, schools or churches for they may want them for projects.

Glasses and Contact Lens: Many eye doctor’s offices assist with sending both eye glasses and contact lenses for reuse or recycling.

Historical Documents: We are fortunate to have both the Southeast Ohio History Center (740) 592-2280 and the Ohio University Archives (740) 593-2710 and many other local historical organizations, who would want old historical documents, year books, photos, flyers and materials to keep as part of our local history. Call them for more information.

Mattresses and Box Springs: Rural Action’s Zero Waste Program accepts clean, dry mattresses and box springs for recycling for a fee per piece. Please call (740)677-4047 ext. 630 to arrange a scheduled drop off.

Plastic Bags, film and bubble wrap: Take these back to your local retailer and if you have additional materials, Rural Action’s Zero Waste Program received a grant to collect and bale plastic bags, film and bubble wrap. Please call 740-677-4047 ext. 630 to arrange a scheduled drop off.

Styrofoam/peanuts/sheets: We do not have currently the ability to recycle these, but many entrepreneurs and artists can use them to ship items. Styrofoam should be disposed in your garbage, not in the recycling bins.

Unused Drugs: Call your local pharmacy, local police or Sheriff’s office for proper disposal of unused medications. They will not take liquid medications. Do not flush any medication, liquid or pills down the toilet.
