The Sutton Road Recycling Center is a Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) where common unwanted items may be dropped off by appointment only. The Athens Hocking Solid Waste District will partner with local organizations so accepted materials will be reused, up-cycled, recycled or properly disposed.
The Sutton Recycling Center located at 33845 Sutton Rd. in Logan, Ohio also serves as a 24 hour, 7 day a week household recycling & cardboard drop-off location. The Sutton Recycling Center is one of the busiest locations of the district’s 22 drop-off locations.
In 2021, one of the three buildings on the site was renovated with electricity, two large hangar doors, new siding and a new roof. Now that the building has been renovated, the goal is to furnish and expand the Sutton Road drop-off location into a year-round recycling center where people can drop off materials instead of having to wait for specific Recycling Days which are only held 4 times a year.
The Athens Hocking Solid Waste District (AHSWD) received an Ohio EPA Recycle Grant which provided basic equipment such as work tables, a scale, pallet dollies & jacks, containers, signs and supplies which help to move, store and process items. This equipment and supplies will enable us to operate by appointment only for hard to recycle materials and house our on-going battery recycling collection program at local libraries and community sites.
We will work with our various partners throughout the state to move the hard to recycle materials or send them to different organizations for recycling. The idea is to keep as much material possible out of the landfill!
AHSWD will only charge the public for specified items when we are charged a disposal fee. Monetary donations will be accepted in order to defray costs. Any funds generated through the collection of these materials will go directly back into the Sutton Road Recycling Center.
The Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District leases 3 buildings and a property from the Hocking County Commissioner for $1.00/year on Sutton Road in Logan. The site and all three buildings are fenced in which help create a secure location and and functional operations for collection hard to recycle materials.
